Bialkowski Alternative Would Be A Serious Downgrade For Birmingham – Agree?

|

Ben Amos is being linked with a move to the club.  HITC are reporting that the Bolton goalkeeper is interesting both us and Millwall with the Trotters keen to listen to offers for the 28-year-old.

The former Manchester United player has been loaned out over the past two years. In the 2016/17 campaign, he spent a season on loan at Cardiff City but played just 16 games in the Championship.

After returning to the Macron stadium last summer, he then joined League One side Charlton Athletic for another season-long loan. He played in all 46 of the Addicks’ league games, conceding 51 and keeping 14 clean sheets.

It is believed that Amos is our main alternative if we fail to land Bartosz Bialkowski. We have reportedly already had a £2.75m offer rejected for the Polish international but are said to be preparing a second bid.

On the club’s pre-season tour in Austria, Garry Monk was asked about transfers, and he said we are working hard to get deals over the line, with the club confident of resolving their problems with the EFL over a transfer embargo.

A move for a goalkeeper is therefore likely. In my opinion, Bialkowski would be a much better choice than Amos. The Pole has been very consistent during his four years with Ipswich. In contrast, Amos would be a downgrade, and although by no means a bad keeper, we need to make sure that our replacement for David Stockdale is of a decent standard.

What do you think? Is Amos good enough? Let me know in the poll:
