It can’t just be me, who before choosing a season ticket or match day ticket, scours the available seats to find the perfect one.

Many of you reading this may think that I need to find myself a hobby rather than perusing the stadium layout of away matches. And you may be right. But surely we all have a favourite spot?

For home matches, at the mighty fortress that is St Andrew’s, the Gill Merrick stand was the Championship equivalent to the Kop at Anfield or the Stretford End at Old Trafford.

As a youngster, getting seats here was the pinnacle of the week and gave me bragging rights in the playground. I was in awe at the goalmouth scrambles and the view of the back of Darren Randolph’s head made my Saturdays. (You’re right, I do need to get a hobby.)

However, when I thought about my seat positioning, I realized that the other end of the pitch was hard to see. When the ball looked destined for the goal, it often ended up as a throwing. (Yes, I wear glasses, but I promise you, it was about perspective.)

The more I thought about this, the more I wanted to try the side of the pitch, in terms of seating arrangement. Here, the view was perfect. Now, I could see the pitch perfectly and also I had the added bonus of seeing the Gill Merrick in all of it’s glory.

That was the day that I found that the Spion Kop was perfect for me.

In terms of away matches, it is at the end of the pitch in which we are all allocated our seats. Therefore, choosing a seat becomes more tactical. Often I like to go in the middle. This gives me a good view of the pitch and I am also surrounded by the beautiful songs from my fellow Brummie’s. I love it.

However, I know people that like to be right at the front. These kind of people are those that want to get on the TV by sticking their head in the face of the camera hoping to get a glimpse of themselves on the ‘Football League Show.’ These kind of people will never admit this, but you probably all know one of these people.

Where do you like to sit? Or is it just randomly generated for you?
