Speaking following his Blues debut and goal that gave us the 2-1 win over Colchester, Nicklas Bendtner looks at what was important.

The 18 year old, on loan from Arsenal, joined up with the team on Thursday and had only one training session before being called into the team to face Colchester on the opening day of the season.

With 11 minutes to go, he stepped up and put away the winner that guaranteed us our first 3 points of the season.

Speaking to the official site he said:

‘The most important thing is that the team won but to score the winning goal was even better for me.

‘When the ball first came into the box I honestly thought about hitting it first time but then I saw the man closing me down so I decided it would be better to take it down and take it around him.

‘I have heard that a lot of clubs were interested in me but I felt that Birmingham was a good choice.

‘I spoke to the Arsenal manager and we decided that would be the best move for me.

‘My long term aim is to get into the Arsenal first team, but in the meantime I want to score goals for Birmingham and help them get promoted.

‘Hopefully I can get a chance to show the manager that I am the right man to start up front in every game.’
