“Automatic in the circumstances”: Former Blue Lee Bowyer flattered by links to manager’s job

|

It’s not exactly a no, but it’s not exactly a yes either.

So take it whatever way you wish to, depending on if you’re holding out hope that he does end up taking the job or not.

I’m talking of course about Lee Bowyer. The former Blue is just one of the names that is being talked about in relation to the soon to be vacant position at St Andrew’s, but the current Charlton Athletic boss is keeping quiet on the matter.

Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s game against Hull City, Bowyer opened up about the link between him and the Blues, and whilst he seemed happy to be linked with the job, he isn’t going to be giving it much of his focus for the time being:

“It is always nice to be recognised for the hard work we are doing. I am not surprised to be linked to the Birmingham job because I played there. It is automatic in the circumstances. But I am just focusing on Charlton. This is my task. The link will not take away my concentration. It is the players who have to do it on the pitch – that is why I’ve said ‘we’ not ‘me’”.

Is Lee Bowyer the perfect candidate for us?

Yes

No

Which is a pretty reasonable position to take, after all he and his team are in the midst of a relegation battle right now as opposed to us who although not totally out of the woods yet, have a lot more breathing room before it’s time to start panicking. Although it does go against recent reports that state he’d be willing to talk to us, so believe who you want on that matter.

I’ve spoken before about the idea of bringing in Bowyer, and the more I think about it, the more I think it’s likely to happen, as I said ‘it’s a match made in heaven’ all things considered, even if he doesn’t tick all the boxes that the club have set out.

Would he be my first choice? No, there are more proven managers out there like Slavisa Jokanovic, Aitor Karanka and Chris Hughton. But would there be a better fit? I don’t think so.

What about you? Do you feel confident after reading Bowyer’s comments?
