Arthur Recovering From Injury Well

Two months ago, Koby Arthur sustained a thigh injury which has put him out of action and put his development slightly behind in terms of not being able to go out on loan for medical reasons. However, his attitude whilst being out injured seems to have been right and he is just getting going again in terms of training.

As documented earlier in the week, the U21 side beat Barnsley 2-0 in what was a very confident performance. Arthur shined in this game for the 60 minutes that he ‘was allowed to play,’ according to Richard Beale.

Even before his injury, he hasn’t made the consistent step up to the first team, making the odd Capitol One Cup appearances. This shows that he is not quite at the intensity to play at a higher level but having just turned 20 and got back fit, he will hopefully kick on and follow Viv’s lead.

“At the start of the season there were ups and downs…I was left out a little bit.’ Arthur told the official bcfc.com site. This to me, shows that he feels a bit hard done to. He was left out in the cold when he could have been getting match games like Gray was. The problem with Arthur is that he can play centrally and out wide so he hasn’t established himself into a position. This makes selection harder as you are seen as more of a squad player who can be played when needed in a versatile way.

He has also been accused in the past of being a bit too cocky so it’s good to hear what he had to say about his change in attitude. “…when young players get that chance they get…big-headed, now I am just going to focus.”

Arthur does have a lot of work to do in order to get back to match fitness. For any player this would be the case so it is good to see that he knows what he’ll need to do and that he is prepared to be patient. He looked sharp in the game and I do believe that he can be a good player in the future, it’s just a shame that he has had a laboured development.

He needs experience and match games but with the likes of Toral and Kieftenbeld occupying the middle spots, it will be hard for him to make a great impact in his preferred position. Reece Brown also played in the game and looked good. Those two have a good partnership. But the U21 league is no where near where it should be in terms of quality.
