Aoife Mannion Extends Contract

Aiofe Mannion is a 20 year old girl who plays the game of football like she has been playing for a lot longer than she has. As a defender it is pivotal that you read the game well. This often comes from experience but Mannion has the natural ability to intercept the play. The women’s super league is a summer league that will start in March. Birmingham city ladies will take on Liverpool in their first game and this is when Mannions new contract will come into play.

Blues Ladies manager, David Parker had said to the official site: “Aoife is yet another local youngster that has progressed…in the last few seasons.
It is with respect to the club that we are able to bring in such great young players. Currently Birmingham ladies are in a transition period where a lot of experienced players have let to be replaced by new young players. It will take time for them to gain the strength and understanding needed to do well but all the signs are there for a promising team.

‘She continues to go from strength to strength and having Aoife at the heart of the team will prove invaluable as we continue to grow.’ Parker goes on to say this which I think really highlights the team philosophy. We try and nurture our own rather than spending and this is repaid with passion by the players.

‘Aoife is no doubt a future leader with great composure and confidence.’ She looks like a certain captain of the club in future. She is very loud which is noticeable from the sideline and bosses every ball that comes her way. Her ability to head the ball and block shots is second to none and I’m delighted that she has stayed at this club. Our club and will bring out the best in her and I’m sure she’ll bring out the best in the players around her. A very positive sign that players like Mannion are committing to the cause of getting Birmingham city ladies back into the top half of the super league and beyond.
