Anything But Gray Spirits

Dermarai Gray has been speaking about his personal expectations and aims for this coming season.

The young Birmingham player admitted that last season was one where he was ahead of even where he thought he would be. The young player was simply aiming to make a first team appearance if possible.

Gray made his debut in October against Millwall, ahead of schedule.

“It was a bit crazy, like. You are only going to make your first team debut once and it`s such an amazing experience.

The Blues graduate said from then on he was just happy to stay around the team and kick on. In particular being around the team during the difficult run in taught him a lot, he said.

“I feel like I have learned so much from going through the experience. Being young and that happening, I have taken it on board and I know what to expect in the future.”

Gray is now involved with the team from the very off. He was a part of the squad that travelled to Ireland and has played in Blues pre-season games.

“Now, personally, it is about trying to get much more experience this season. Maybe some goals, if I get an opportunity.”

With new players coming in to the Blues team this year the young midfielder accepted that competition would be tough. Gray seemed very positive in predicting Blues could reach the top half of the table, like many other players within the squad.

The worry is that if Blues do start badly, how well are they mentally prepared for the bubble of optimism to burst? Although it is a totally new team and we must watch on with similar optimism.

Birmingham travel to Mansfield Town on Saturday after pre-season wins over Cork City and Forest Green Rovers. Demarai Gray will be hoping to stake more of a claim for that left hand side position.
