Who knew that April Fools could come around in July?
It looks as if we’ve all been played for the past few days. According to Richard Wilford of BBC West Midlands:
It would seem the rumoured interest from @BCFC in Las Palmas winger Mateo Garcia is just that – a rumour. I’m told the club are not looking to strengthen in that area in this window and they’re surprised by stories coming from Spanish media.

Obviously anything can happen in the world of football transfers. Let’s not forget what happened with Robinho’s move to Chelsea back in 2008. That all seemed to be going one way before making a last-minute detour to the Etihad, so let’s not quite give up hope on him signing just yet.
I wrote yesterday about Garcia, saying that although he seemed to fit the mould of what Birmingham wanted, I wasn’t 100% convinced that he would hit the ground running, so I’m not overly disappointed these rumours could all just turn out to be red herrings. At the same time though, the team is still short of wingers so he would have been some use to the team, even if he didn’t turn out to be a world-beater.
But with the move seemingly off, these fans took to Twitter to express their views on the latest updates. Although can you really call them updates if nothing ever happened to begin with?
Seems we’ve all had our pants down re garcia ????????♂️ #bcfc

Seemed strange to be signing a winger with the current formation

Always found that Garcia link weird because we aren’t playing with wingers anymore thank god it was a fake rumour #bcfc

The Mateo Garcia thing is a little strange! Lost in translation, perhaps. Or is it a case of putting people off the scent so they can sort out a deal. #BCFC #KRO
