Having only been appointed last June, the club have departed with Alan Thompson, the manager of the development squad.
Having removed Lee Clark earlier in the week, the news that Thompson will also leave the club, adds volatility to the set up at St Andrews.
As an avid watcher of the youth games, it has come as quite a shock, to me personally. He has handled loan deals really well, especially that of Nick Townsend.
He has also integrated the youth system well with the first team.
The weekly question and answer session posed on the official website, always asks who the youngsters inspiration is. Many of the Birmingham City lads chose Alan Thompson.
A likable figure, who was doing a steady job. Results were hard to come by, but at that age, it’s all about performances and learning. Something I believe Thompson was very good at.
