After signing a new three-year contract at Birmingham City, a lot of credit must go to Demarai Gray and his agent.

It is rare that a footballer`s adviser is written about in a good light. Time and time again agents are in the spot light for advising their client for the benefit of their pockets rather than their career. But in the case of Dimmy Gray, his agent has represented his client`s best interests.

It would have been easy for Gray to follow the pound signs and demand a move to the Premier League with Bournemouth, and other clubs, chasing his services. Of course, the agent gets a massive commission on any deal.

But credit to the pair who have not only done the best thing for the players development, but gone about it in the correct manner. Gray made it clear he would put pen-to-paper on a fresh deal after he has gained assurances on the direction that the club is heading.

Obviously, the new contract will come with a significant pay rise for Gray, but he deserves that to represent his value to the club.

Gary Rowett rightly described the new deal as Blues` best signing of the summer. Highly rated and much sought after, Gray will thrive in the Championship of he keeps his feet on the ground. He can be a massive asset to Blues.

And even if the situation arises in which Blues receive a big offer from a bigger club, the deal would have been worth it and will stand the club in good stead when requesting their valuation of the player.
A great piece of business, brilliantly executed by all parties. How rare is that? No fuss. No Raheem Sterling-style soap opera.
