Reading manager Nigel Adkins was pleased to see Jobi McAnuff back on the score sheet with a brace against Birmingham City on Saturday and even more pleased with the win.

And Atkins wants to see McAnuff score more often after scoring for the first time in two years to earn his side the three points from the clash at St Andrews.

But the visitors went ahead against the run of play when McAnuff fired home after 39 minutes, although a Paul Caddis penalty had the two sides level just four minutes later.

But the Reading man was back on the mark again when he scored on the far post with just eight minutes of the game left.

Adkins told reporters: ‘They were two excellent goals and, watching it back, two excellent footballing goals.

‘I’m surprised he hasn’t scored more and it’s not as if he’s not had chances. But it’s great that he’s gone and scored them here and all being well he’ll go on a nice run now.

‘He works so hard, he’s our captain and you know you’re going to get a good shift from him.’

The win moves Reading into the play off places after Nottingham Forest were hammered by Derby County earlier in the day.
