‘About to do bits’, ‘too good for League 2’: These Blues fans react as young man makes move away

|

This is why I gave you that little warning a couple of weeks ago.

I knew that there was likely to be some departures down to the lower leagues, although I must admit this guy was quite a way down my list of expected departures.

The club announced yesterday that 20-year-old attacking midfielder Charlie Lakin is to spend the rest of the season on loan at Stevenage. Lakin made a bit of an inroad into the first team at the start of last year, making ten appearances in the league.

However opportunities have dried up and with it looking unlikely that he’ll be part of the first team this season, especially after the Blues were knocked out of the League Cup by Portsmouth, a team that he happened to be part of, the club have decided to send him down a division to get some experience.

So how did Birmingham fans react when they heard the news? Well for the most part they were in favour of the move. With first-team opportunities likely to be rare, they saw the benefit of him spending a few months away from B9, hopefully to make an impact on the first team in the future.
