The suspension of Reece Brown is a frustrating situation. Here we have a young footballer with undoubted ability and the world at his feet, but evidently not the attitude to go with it.

The 20 year-old has been suspended for ‘a couple of weeks` while the club carry out an investigation into his conduct and professionalism.

Brown is a rarity in the sense that his footballing talent is immense. Despite his tiny frame, Brown is a gifted passer of the ball and carries a great deal of footballing intelligence. At the age of 18, the youngster made his Blues bow at Burnley in a 3-0 defeat. But following the game, then-manager Lee Clark said Brown was ‘the only player who has probably enhanced his reputation from the night. He came on and showed his ability, showed no nerves and was competitive’.

In November, Brown was introduced from the bench against Charlton at St. Andrew`s. Despite a defeat, Brown impressed in his first Championship outing for over a year. His vision and creativity almost carved out an equaliser. Since then, he has been nothing but problematic.

Recently, Brown had a trial with West Ham, playing in their development squad fixture against Brighton.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail about his suspension, Rowett said- “He`s a skilful player, he`s got bags of ability, we all know that – there`s absolutely no doubt about that. When you have got a young player who perhaps doesn`t see the value or perhaps doesn`t have the discipline to do everything it takes, we have had to try and maybe jolt him into life a little bit”.
