The opening fixture for Birmingham sees them play hosts to new signing Neil Danns’ former club Colchester.
St Andrews will also be playing host to Colchester’s first ever game in the second tier of English football. It was only 15 years ago that they were playing non league football.
Speaking to the official site, Danns joked:
‘It could only happen to me!
‘I’m really looking forward to it, it will be nice to see a few of my old team mates and some of the staff.
‘But obviously my loyalty is with Birmingham now and I will be determined to start my opening game with a win.
“It’s fate really and I’m really looking forward to the game. I got a text to let me know and it couldn’t be a better game for me to start this season.
“I am sure I will be asked to give the low-down of the U’s team and maybe that will give us a slight edge.”
