As we head into the final two months of the season, I thought it would be a good idea to have a look at the run in that Birmingham City has as well as what the teams around them have to contend with.

By now, most fans will have realised that there is a four horse race for that last play-off spot which Sheffield Wednesday are currently occupying.

The four teams are the Owls themselves, Cardiff City, Birmingham City and Ipswich Town. The table as it stands has Sheff Wednesday at 6th on 55 points, Cardiff in 7th on 55 points, Blues in 8th with 54 points and Ipswich in 9th with 54 points.

Following a disappointing loss for the Owls at the weekend, it has now become advantage to the three teams below them who are all on good form.

Below are the fixtures that each team face heading into the final eight weeks of the season and it is fair to say that Gary Rowett’s side probably have the toughest games ahead.

Sheffield Wednesday:

– Brighton and Hove Albion (A)
– Nottingham Forest (A)
– Charlton Athletic (H)
– Huddersfield Town (A)
– Blackburn Rovers (H)
– Bristol City (A)
– Ipswich Town (H)
– MK Dons (H)
– Derby County (A)
– Cardiff City (H)
– Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)

Cardiff City:

– Leeds United (H)
– Ipswich Town (H)
– Reading (A)
– Derby County (H)
– Burnley (A)
– Fulham (A)
– Queens Park Rangers (H)
– Brentford (A)
– Bolton Wanderers (H)
– Sheffield Wednesday (A)
– Birmingham City (H)

Birmingham City:

– Blackburn Rovers (A)
– Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)
– Fulham (H)
– Charlton Athletic (A)
– Brighton and Hove Albion (H)
– Reading (A)
– Leeds United (H)
– Burnley (H)
– Preston North End (H)
– Huddersfield Town (A)
– Middlesbrough (H)
– Cardiff City (A)

Ipswich Town:

– Bolton Wanderers (A)
– Cardiff City (A)
– Blackburn Rovers (H)
– Rotherham United (H)
– Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)
– Charlton Athletic (H)
– Brentford (H)
– Sheffield Wednesday (A)
– Fulham (H)
– Middlesbrough (A)
– MK Dons (H)
– Derby County (A)

As you can see from the remaining fixtures above, Blues still have to play three of the top four in the Sky Bet Championship, but a positive that Blues boss Rowett must be taking from that is that they are all at home.

A big fixture in the play-off race could be the last game of the season between Cardiff and Birmingham. We all know that Blues love a good scrap on the last day of the season and if we can get into that last play-off spot on the 7th of May in Cardiff, what a turn around it would be in three years!

Ipswich still have to play Sheffield Wednesday which could be another tough fixture and Wednesday still have to face Cardiff so there are some massive games to look out for over the next month or so!

Make sure you keep your eyes peeled in what look set to be the most thrilling of Championship play-off races in years!
