A glimpse at those around

With Blues not in action yesterday due to Leeds United`s participation in the FA Cup, it was a chance for the teams around us to take advantage.

From our point of view, results didn’t really go our way.

Starting with the early kick off, Cardiff put in an impressive display against Brighton as they ran out 4-1 winners.

The result puts the Bluebirds back into the play off mix and they even went a point ahead of Blues into 7th position.

There was more bad news when Derby fought back from 1-0 down to beat Brentford 3-1 away from home.

The Rams were just three points ahead of Blues but now have a six point cushion on us as well as overtaking Sheffield Wednesday.

That was perhaps the best news of the day as the Owls lost 1-0 at Preston. The five point gap between us and them still stands and we can close that gap to two points with our game in hand.

As beneficial as that result may seem, it might not have been the best for us. Preston are, in fact, slowly creeping up the league and are now in 10th place just three points off us.

With Cardiff already getting back into the mix, we don’t want even more teams fighting for what could be just one or two play off spots.

So, at the end of yesterday’s play, Blues are five points off the play off places with a game in hand.

Tuesday’s visit of Bolton Wanderers is quite simply a must win game.
