Birmingham manager Chris Hughton said that his side deserved a point from the game with Blackpool.

Blues led the game for a short time through Marlon King but strikes from Blackpool defenders had the home side in front in the second half.

And with time running out, Hughton made an inspired substitution by bringing on Nikola Zigic and although he missed an easy chance as soon as he came on, he did the business three minutes from time.

‘I think it’s always a very emotional game and sometimes you have to step away from the game afterwards and assess it, and overall a draw was a fair result,’ said Hughton.

‘We certainly didn’t deserve anything less than that because on the balance of play on chances they had a very good chance in that second half period.

‘We had a couple of excellent chances through Marlon King earlier in the game and a couple of offsides that would have seen him through that were wrong decisions.

‘It was that type of game, very entertaining and we deserved the point in my opinion.

‘I think when you’ve got a centre forward on the bench and you need a little bit of something it’s a chance that you take.

‘At that stage we weren’t playing that badly, with Jean Beausejour out wide you’ve got somebody who can produce something but we decided to change things up a bit and freshen it up and with Zigic he’s a quality player.

‘He’s starting to get where we want him to be fitness wise.’
